These 2 Basotho Creatives Are Leading The Way In Lesotho’s Design Scene

In Lesotho, where fashion is still a relatively young industry, two Basotho designers have identified a space in the creative scene. Phutheho Ranooe, 29, and ‘Maleeto Monyau, 30, are House of Thethana, a textile design duo who specialise in an innovative assortment of futuristic prints for men and women. Their mission is to proclaim market leadership in Lesotho’s design scene by recreating familiar Basotho accessories into something funky and timeless. The brand, which officially launched as a business in January, takes its name from the traditional Sesotho bead-decorated skirt made of fibre known as “thethana.”

Minister Of Youth, Sport & Culture Calls Batswana Fashion Designers For A Meeting

The  the Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture Hon Thapelo Olopeng is the most active minister you can think of. His Ministry is a challenge as it deals with the future of Botswana, youth. He is always in touch with his people. Late last year he held a massive festival for people in his constituency in Tonota, where people partied from morning till the next day. Now the Minister is at it again, he is inviting all Batswana fashion designers for a meeting.

The meeting will be held at the Botswana Public Service College in Gaborone on the 16th of Feb 2016 at 8 am. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the possibility for their merchandise to be included and sold in Chain Stores around the country.

This is a great opportunity, since there is still a niche in our fashion industry. Chain stores around the country sell brands from neighboring countries as well as international countries. Big up DJ Tipzela, we hope other Ministers will follow suit
